B One year our family decided to have a special celebration of Mother’s Day, as appreciations for all the things that Mother had done for us. After breakfast we had arranged, as a surprise, to hire a car and take her for a beautiful drive in the country. Mother was rarely able to have a treat like that, because she was busy in the house nearly all the time. But on the very morning of the day, we changed the plan a little, because it occurred to Father that it would be even better to take Mother fishing. As the car was hired and paid for, we might as well use it to drive up into the hills where the str eams are. As Father said, if you just go driving without object, you have a sense of aimlessness, but if you are going to fish , there is a purpose that raises the enjoyment. So we all felt it would be nicer for Mother to have a definite purpose . Father had just got a fishing rod the day before, which he said mother could use if she wanted to. Only Mother said she would much rather watch him fish than try to fish herself. So we got her to make up a sandwich lunch in case we got hungry, though we were to come home again to a big festive dinner. Well, when the car came to the door, it turned out that there was not as much space in it as we had thought. It was narrow that we couldn’t all get in. Father said that he could just stay home and put in the time working in the garden. He said that there was a lot of rough dirty work that he could do, like digging a trench for the garbage, which would save hiring a man, and so he said that he’d stay home; he said that we were not to let the fact that he had not had a real holiday for three years stand in our way. He wanted us to go right ahead and not to mind him. But of course we all felt that it would never do to let Father stay home, especia lly as we knew he would make trouble if he did. The two girls, Anne and Mary, would have stayed and helped the maid get dinner, only it seemed such a pity, for the two girls were eager to show their new hats on a lovely day like this. But they said that Mother had only to 教育配套资料 K12

教育配套资料 K12 say the word and they’d gladly stay home and work. Will and I would have dropped out, but unfortunately we wouldn’t have been any use in preparing the dinner.
5. According to Paragraph 2, we know that the plan was changed because________. A. Father advised to go fishing out B. we thought that driving out is boring C. we failed to hire a car to go out D. the car was not big enough
6.Why didn’t the author drop out of the activity? A. Because his sisters didn’t join in. B. Because he needed to have dinner. C. Because he couldn’t cook the dinner. D. Because he hadn’t had a real holiday for three years.
7.Which of the following proverbs describes the text best? A. Everything comes to him who waits. B. Changes always go beyond plans. C. Better late than never. D. Once on shore, one prays no more.
C “People are ruder today because they are rushed and more ‘time poor’ than ever before,” says Patsy Rowe, “ Manners have fallen off the radar(雷达).” Due to our strong attraction to electronic equipment it is a wonder more people don’t wake up each morning and greet the singing birds with a complaint(抱怨)about the noise. Here are some examples of rudeness.

Some people prefer to do almost everything over the Internet. To them, dealing with an actual human is like an evolutionary step backward. It feels very slow because humans don’t work at 4G speeds. When you have dinner with friends, you will often notice someone paying more attention to his mobile phone. We have programmed ourselves to think that every new message brings life-changing news, so taking calls and checking our texts are more important than talking to the people we are with. What is worse, some people even tend to send anonymous(匿名的) rude messages by email.
However, rudeness is never acceptable. Don’t assume it is OK to be rude if the person you’re in touch with won’t recognize you. If you have something awful to say, have the courage to face the person and say it, write a letter or email and sign it, or forget it. Upsetting people with unsig ned messages is cruel and disgusting.
We shouldn′t blame technology for our shortcomings. Technology is here to help us, but we should not allow it to take over our lives. An important step is acknowledging our shortcomings. People spend a lot of time pointing out bad manners but it would be even more helpful if we′d publicly acknowledge good manners when we see them.

8. What can be infer from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1?

A. People can tell good from bad behavior.

B. Radar is able to observe human behavior.

C. Radar can be used to predict human behavior.

D. People care little about their behavior.

9. Some people are less willing to deal with humans because _______.

A. they are growing too independent

B. they are becoming less patient

C. they have to handle many important messages

D. they have to follow an evolutionary step backward.

10. The author thinks sending unsigned awful messages is _______.

A. ridiculous

B. acceptable

C. disgus ting

D. reasonable

11. What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A. Technology will take over lives one day.

B. Technology can never be blamed C. We should keep pointing out mistakes. D. We should applaud good behavior.
D How to deal with waste has been a problem since humans started producing it. As more and more people choose to live close together in cities, the waste-disposal(处理)problem becomes increasingly difficult. During the eighteenth century, it was usual for several neighboring towns to get together to select a faraway spot as a dump site(垃圾填埋场). Residents or trash haulers(垃圾 拖运者)would transport household rubbish, rotted wood, and old possessions to the site. Periodically(定期的)some of the trash was burned and the rest was buried. The unpleasant sights and smells caused no problem because nobody lived close by. Factories, mills, and other industrial sites also had waste to be disposed of. Those located on rivers often just dumped the unwanted remains into the water. Others built huge burners with chimneys to deal with the problem. Several facts make these choices unacceptable to modern society. The first problem is space. Dumps, which are now called landfills, are most needed in heavily populated areas. Such areas seldom have empty land suitable for this purpose. Land is either too expensive or too close to residential(住宅区的)neighborhoods. Long-distance trash hauling has been a common practice, but once farm areas are refusing to accept rubbish from elsewhere, cheap land within trucking distance of major city areas is almost nonexistent. Awareness of pollution dangers has led to more strict rules of waste disposal. Pollution of rivers, ground water, land and air is a price people can no longer pay to get rid of waste. The amount of waste, however, continues to grow. Recycling efforts have become commonplace, and many towns require their people to take part. Even the most efficient recycling programs, however, can hope to deal with only about 50 per cent of a city’s reusable waste.

12. The most suitable title for this pa ssage would be

.

A. Places for Disposing Waste

B. Waste Disposal Problem

C. Ways of Getting Rid of Waste

D. Waste Pollution Dangers

13. During the 18th century, people disposed their waste in many ways EXCEPT for_________

A. recycling it

B. burying it

C. burning it

D. throwing it into rivers

14. What can be inferred from the fourth paragraph?

A. Farm areas accept waste from the city in modern society.

B. There is cheap land to bury waste in modern society.

C. Ways to deal with waste in modern society stay the same.

D. It is impossible to find space to bury waste in modern society.

15. The main purpose of writing this article is to

.

A. tell people a better way to get rid of the waste.

B. warn people of the pollution dangers we are facing.

C. call on people to take part in recycling programs.

D. draw people’s attention to waste management.

第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Kids' health: Four steps for fighting stress Everybo dy gets stressed time to time. 16 Some ways of dealing with stress―like screaming or hitting someone―don't solve (解决) much. But other ways, like talking to someone you trust, can lead you to solving your problem or at least feeling better. Try taking these four steps the next time you are stressed: (1) Get support. When you need help, reach out to the people who care about you. Talk to “trusted adult”, such as “parents or other relatives”. 17 They might have had similar problems, such as dealing with a test, or the death of a beloved pet.
(2) Don't take it out on yourself. Sometimes when kids are stressed and upset they take it out on themselves. Oh, dear, that's not a good idea. Remember that there are always people to help you. Don't take it out on yourself. 18 教育配套资料 K12

(4) Be positive. Most stress is temporary( 暂 时 的 ).Remember stress does go away,

especially when you figure out the problem and start working on solving it. These steps

aren't magic, but they do work. And if you can stay positive as you make your way through

a tough time, you'll help yourself feel better and even faster.

20

A. Ask for a helping hand to get you through the tough situation. B. Notice your friends' feelings and find a way to help them. C. Different people feel stressed in different ways. D. Ah, it feels so good when the stress is gone. E. You need to figure out what the problem is. F. And don't forget about your friends. G. Then, find a way to calm down.
