Unit 22 Environmental protection Lesson 1 Global warming Can we take the heat? By Ellen Lee Teaching analysis: 1. Knowledge and Abilities: (1). To help the students learn and master some useful words and phrases. (2). To help the students improve their reading and speaking abilities by scanning and skimming. 2. Process and Methods (1). Individual and group work (2). Asking and answering (3). Task- based method 3. Emotion, Attitude and Value (1). To enable the students to realize the importance of environmental protection. (2). To encourage the students to take an active part in environmental protection. Teaching Important and Difficult Point: 1. To improve the students’ problem solving ability and reading ability. 2. How to help the students improve their reading. Teaching Aids:

1. The blackboard Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Greetings

2. The computer

Greet the students as usual. Step 2 Lead-in Show some pictures to introduce the topic of the lesson. Learn some important words which have something to do with environmental protection. Step 3 Reading Task 1: Ask the students to read the passage quickly and find out the key sentence of each paragraph. Task 2: Ask the students to summarize the headings of each paragraph based on Task 1. Para. 1: _________ the problem of global warming. Para. 2: The __________ of global warming Para. 3: _______ of global warming Para. 4: _______ of global warming Para. 5: _______ to the readers. Task 3: Go through the details of the passage and do the following T/ F questions: 1. Global warming will surely be the biggest environmental problem in the 21st century.

2. The temperature of the earth depends on carbon dioxide. 3. Without carbon dioxide, we couldn’t live on the earth. 4.Without human beings’ activities, there wouldn’t be global warming. 5. Global warming will contribute to occurrence of many more serious diseases. 6. Not just the government but all of us have a responsibility to do something to help reduce global warming. 7. The US government takes an active part in reducing global warming. Task 4: Choose the best answer: 1. Step 4 Voice Your Opinion 1. Go through the passage and ask the students to summarize the structure of the passage. 2. Ask the students to describe the greenhouse effect based on the picture. 3. What will you do every day to help reduce greenhouse gases? Step5 Homework 1. Finish the exercises in Exe. 5 on Page 7. 2. Preview the grammar.
