It said that donated dogs should be between six months and two years old and must have an impressive pedigree(血统). German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Rottweilers, Dalmatians, Cocker Spaniels and Doberman Pinschers are preferred. Chief Inspector Lal Senavirathne said 25 people donated their pets, but only 18 dogs could be enlisted as the others did not meet the recruitment. He said the dogs would be trained to identify explosives, search for buried mines, sniff down drugs, deal with criminals and even perform tricks for the public. The dogs will retire after serving a maximum period of eight years and will be returned to their original owners. “We already have 170 dogs deployed in 30 units, including the operational area or conflict areas in the island’s north and east”, Senavirathne told AFP by telephone from his headquarters in the central town of Kandy. He said it was the first time they were making a public appeal because of pressure on the police kennels(养狗场), which usually import about half of their annual requirement. “This time, we hope to enlist about 50 dogs. They will be given six months extensive training and another six months on the job,” he said. “Thereafter they will be officially called Police Dogs.” Sri Lanka’s dog population is about 2.3 million while it has 19.5 million people, and about 20,000 to 30,000 people are annually treated for homeless dog bites. 59.What did the police mainly want people to do? A.Pet Dogs Want Training B.The Shortage of Pet Dogs C.Pet Dogs Can Help People D.Pet Dogs Needed by the Country C Hidden in our subconsciousness (潜意识) is a perfect mental picture. We see ourselves on a long trip that goes across the continent. We are traveling by train. Out the windows, we think in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle feeding on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, or row upon row of corn and wheat, of flat lands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hills, of city skylines and village halls. But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there, so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw(拼图玩具) puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles(通道), condemning the minutes for loitering --waiting, waiting, waiting for the station. “When we reach the station, that will be it!” we cry. “When I’m 38.” “When I buy a new 450SL Mercdes Benz!” “When I put the last kid through college.” “When I have paid off the!” “When I get a promotion.” “When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily ever after! ” Sooner or later, we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us. “Relish(appreciate) the moment” is a good motto, actually it isn’t the burdens of today that drive man mad. It is the regret over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today. So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more and cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. Then the station will come soon enough. 63.Why does the author describe the mental picture? A.To lead us into a perfect world. B.To let people enjoy the scenery. C.To introduce an actual trip of his. D.To compare it to our life’s journey. 64.How do people feel when they’re on their trip? A.Puzzled. B.Happy. C.Relaxed. C.To advice us to forget our worries. D.To stop us wandering along the aisles. D However important we may regard school life to be, we can’t ignore the fact that children spend more time at home than in the classroom. Therefore the great influence of parents can’t be ignored or discounted by the teacher. They can become strong supports of the school or they can consciously or unconsciously prevent the school from accomplishing its aims. Administrators have been aware of the need to keep parents apprised of the newer methods used in schools. Many principals have conducted workshops explaining such matters as the reading readiness program and developmental math. Moreover, the classroom teacher can also play an important role in explaining to parents what they should do. The informal tea and the many interviews carried on during the year, as well as new ways of reporting pupils’ progress, can significantly aid the interchanged of ideas between school and home. Suppose that a father has been drilling Junior in arithmetic processes night after night. In a friendly interview, the teacher can help the parent change his method. He might be persuaded to let Junior participate in discussing he family budget, buying the food, using a measuring cup at home, setting the clock, calculating mileage on a trip and engaging in scores of other activities that have a mathematical basis. If the father follows the advice, it is reasonable to assume that he will soon realize his son is making satisfactory progress in math and at the same time, enjoying the work. Too often, however, teachers’ conferences with parents are devoted to unimportant accounts of children’s wrongdoing, complaints about laziness and poor work habits, and suggestions for punishments and rewards at home. What is needed is a more creative approach in which the teacher, as a professional advisor, plants ideas in parents’ minds for the best use of the many hours that the child spends out of the classroom. In this way, the school and the home join forces in fostering the fullest development of youngsters’ competence. 67.The underlined phrase “keep parents apprised of” (Line 1, Para. 2) probably means to let parents . A.judge B.know C.design D.develop 68.What is the purpose of the schools’ informal tea and interviews? A.To improve the relationship between teacher and parents. B.To explain to parents the change of the school curriculum. C.To report students’ misdoings and suggestions for punishments. D.To help develop good communication between school and home. 69.Why does the author provide all example in Paragraph 4? A.To help parents to know the importance of home activities. B.To show how the teacher can guide in home training. C.To prove parents all non professional advisors. D.To advice parents to teach kids math at home. 70.From the passage we learn that the author .

Your interests are expanding. 71 Here is the challenge:Kids need to explore the world in new ways, and parents need to protect them from the dangers that all out in that world. These conflicts can easily set off fireworks in otherwise calm houses. Sometimes conflicts can’t be avoided. But by paying attention to the building blocks of successful relationships, you can work towards making home a happy and healthy place for you and your parents. For instance, try to find a time to talk when your parents all not angry, tired, distracted, or hungry. A good time to talk is when you’re all relaxed. Timing is everything. If the conversation begins to turn into an argument, you’d better calmly and coolly ask to stop the conversation--for now. 73 Respect is the building block of good communication. People who respect each other and care about each others’ feelings call disagree without things getting ugly. 74 How do you build trust? Trust comes by actually doing what you say you’re going to do. Some teens find that doing fun activities with their parents can improve their relationships. Sometimes we forget that parents are more than rule-makers--they’re interesting people who like to watch movies. And go shopping--just like their teenagers! What do you do if you are trying your best, but your relationship with your parents continues to be rocky? 75 You can find supportive adults, such as a teacher or a coach, who can lend an ear. Remember you can only change your own behavior. Your parents are the only ones who can change theirs. A.It also gives them a chance to clear things up if you’re not on the same page. B.You can pick it up again when everyone’s more relaxed. C.And then you’ll be able to accept what your parents say. D.Faced with the challenge, children don’t know what to do. E.You are more likely to get along with your parents and have more independence if your parents believe in you. F.And your desire to take control of your own life is growing. G.You may consider seeking outside help.

We had some American exchange students in our school last week. As a host brother, I’d like to share some happy experiences with you. Upon their arrival, we gave the American students a warm welcome, among whom a boy named Tim was to stay with my family for the weekend. While they were introducing themselves, I already recognized him by comparing him with the photo he had sent to me. When school was over, we took the subway home. where my parents had already prepared a rich family dinner for Tim. We enjoyed ourselves a lot, eating and chatting about whatever subjects that interested US. The next day, I acted as a guide, showing Tim around the most famous scenic spots in Beijing, such as the Great Wall and the Bird’s Nest. Wherever he went, he had some photos taken to help him memorize this unforgettable trip to China. When finally the time came for US to say good—bye, I gave Tim a kite as a souvenir. I think this activity has benefited me a lot. It was a perfect chance for me both to practice my oral English and to learn more about America. 第二节 开放作文(15 分) 三、One possible version: Looking at the picture, I can see two cactuses growing in a large area of desert. The mother cactus if holding an umbrella to protect the baby cactus from the baking sun. But against her good wish. the baby cactus is bending down and turning weak in the shade of the umbrella. This makes me think of what happens in our daily life. Like the mother cactus in the picture, parents are making every effort to create a comfortable environment for their children. But unfortunately, they have forgotten one important fact. No one can grove up without experiencing pain and difficulties. Too much protection from parents has a side effect on children. Just like the baby cactus in the picture, how can it grow up healthily without sunlight? So parents, please throw the umbrella away. Let children face whatever may lie ahead of them SO that they will be able to grow naturally.
